Access thousands of tools and a complete workshop in downtown Hamilton. Opening January 2, 2015.
The Hamilton Tool Library is a tool lending library that aims to provide residents of Hamilton with easy and inexpensive access to tools and skills they need to improve their lives. The idea behind the tool library is just like a library lending books, but instead of books we lend tools. We will also offer a full wood shop, a bike repair area, as well as training and education to ensure safety and success when using the tools. Our inventory will include thousands of woodworking, metalworking, gardening, bike repair, kitchen, handicraft tools, as well as some high-tech equipment including computers, 3D printers and laser cutters.
The Hamilton Tool Library will provide its members with the resources that they need to make repairs and renovations to their property and the know-how to complete their projects. This will allow them to be creative and accomplish their projects affordably and independently. Whether you are improving your home, crafting, building furniture, or starting a small business, every successful project starts with having the right tools.
We will regularly host free and pay-what-you-can workshops on tool use and on a wide range of specialized topics. These will help members get past roadblocks in their projects, as well as connect and enable the community. The library is open to all ages and levels of experience and we are partnering with other Hamilton area organizations, colleges and schools to foster job retraining and community rehabilitation.
We know that when individuals share knowledge and support each other, they build a vibrant and positive community, capable of new growth. The Hamilton Tool Library will help provide the space, the tools and the training to help build and rejuvenate our city.
