When Ray Northey started his business in 1989 as Northey Contracting Inc., he already had 9 years experience in the trade and the company typically built three homes per year, plus renovations. This trend continued until 1998 when Timberline Custom Homes became the identity of the company. With promotion and referrals, business expanded beyond the individual stage and evolved to the much larger identity it is today. Starting out with approximately a 4 man crew soon enough more carpenters were hired, and several crews of 3 to 4 were set up. Timberline signed on to be a Tarion Home Builder right from the start showing the commitment to service would stand true. In 2004 Timberline won the contract for the new Township of North Kawartha Fire station, making it the company’s first commercial job. 2004 saw more company growth, expanding sales, and the hiring of more employees. Another large contract job building the model home for a 25-unit lake front condominium development, as well as construction of more custom homes and cottages, were some of the projects that year. In 2005 they had won the tender for the build of the Township of North Kawartha Municipal Office located in Apsley Ontario. In late 2006 Timberline took on the large project of The Landing, the 25 unit Condo project on Anstruther Lake in Apsley Ontario. This was the biggest and most challenging project Timberline had ever taken on. With hard work and perseverance that project was completed successfully. In August of 2007 Timberlines office moved to a larger, more central location. This allowed them to continue strengthening the foundation of Timberline Custom Homes’ administrative side to ensure continued stability as we expanded and grew. In addition to new computers to the office and the purchase of the computer program “Chief Architect”, with its 3D capabilities allow the customers to see their visions come to life. Timberline offers an expansive vision of each clients dream through this program. Timberline has their very own Wood Working/Painting & Staining Shop where they manufacture and finish the majority of their trims and other finishing portions of the jobs. They also call on several reliable, local sub-contractors for certain aspects of a building project, or when the workload is too great to handle “in house”. Anything from a small deck or dock project, washroom reno, bunkee’s boathouses, renovations & additions all the way up to a 11,000 square foot dream home or cottage’s Timberline does it all including commercial projects! They offer a complete pricing breakdown from start to finish as well as a time & material based contract. One of Timberline’s upcoming projects as Developer & Builder is in stages to finalize the development of a 100-acre farm into a green 58-lot private community keeping a theme of Maibec siding mixed with cultured stone, featuring porches, gables, open concepts and cathedral ceilings. To that same end, Ray Northey hopes that Timberline will complete more environmentally friendly projects, looking to combine solar energy with a hot water system for heating. Building “with” nature has always been very important to Timberline Custom Homes. Now in 2012 Timberline Custom Homes has come a long way & consists of approximately 20 employees, recently became a member of the Peterborough Home Builders Association as well as a Renomark Builder.
