Strait Area Transit is a non-profit community based transit system who's goal is to provide all inclusive, safe, reliable, accessible, environmentally friendly and professionally deliverd transit services to the residents of the Strait Area. Imagine being dependant on others for transportation. You miss medical appointments, job opportunities, family gatherings, or even everyday events like shopping because of this barrier. Now imagine that barrier being removed. You are now able to make it to life saving medical appointments 3x a week…able to visit the stores in Port Hawkesbury for the first time in 12 years… no longer dependent on others for drives. For many of our loyal passengers, that is exactly what the Strait Area Transit has done for them. With every trip Strait Area Transit makes, barriers to employment, education, medical appointments and social interactions are being stripped away. The reality is that transportation is still an issue for many residents of the Strait Area, regardless of age or economic stature. With the dispersed locations of essential services and opportunities, the cost and availability of transportation is a major concern for residents. Strait Area Transit provides a solution for this problem. Did you know that Strait Area Transit is also environmentally friendly. By taking the bus, there could be 40 fewer vehicles on the road, 70,000 litres of fuel could be saved and 175 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions would be reduced a year! We offer several types of services including: 1) Regular Scheduled Services: This is a Monday to Friday service which has a fixed route, times and stops and does not require pre-booking 2) Dial A Ride Services: This is a door to door service for those residents that are unable to use traditional transportation. The main purpose of this service is to provide transportation to medical appointments and other destination for those that require an accessible vehicle. 3) Charter Services: This service is offered evenings and weekends and is a great way for a group of people to travel together to a common destination. Keep you friends, family and co-workers safe by providing them with safe transportation to and from your event and avoid the tragedies associated with drinking and driving. 4) Courier Services: This service runs Monday to Friday and is a door to door delivery service for both business and the general public. We offer 2 delivery times per day to any location travel by Strait Area Transits regular scheduled services.
