St'at'imc Education & Training

The St’át’imc Education and Training commits to work collaboratively with all educational partners to build capacity and achieve transformational change in education and training for lifelong learning to create culturally responsive learning programs that benefit all learners. Framework Principles: 1. Because a healthy pregnancy and birth, followed by a child’s healthy growth and development during the first years of life will have long lasting benefits. 2. Because strong early learning provide critical foundations for success in later education. 3. Because academic readiness improve education outcomes and retain high expectations of students to succeed in education. 4. Because increasing the number of highly educated St’át’imc with the skills, knowledge and qualifications sought by employers will boost student employment opportunities. 5. Because education and training has an important role in sustaining the St’át’imc vision. 6. Because increasing skills and employment achievement is the single most important way to achieve the ambitious goals for developing a productive St’át’imc Economy to enable a range of work that makes a difference in improving educational and employment outcomes. 7. Because we value St’át’imc ways of knowing we are committed to ensuring that research and content foundationally reflect First Nations ways of knowing and accurately depict the contributions of the St’át’imc. 8. Because learning is a lifelong process that requires both formal and informal opportunities for learning within each age group. 9. Because we value accountability and the responsible management of the SET Program – accelerating success requires strong coordination and collaboration between education partners to strengthen capacity of the St’át’imc. 10. Because we value constitutional Aboriginal rights we are committed to education and lifelong learning that honours the historical uniqueness of aboriginal rights to education while acknowledging the federal government’s legal, constitutional, fiscal obligations to First Nations.
