Salty Meadows

We have been working on building our homestead for a couple of years now. We invite you to come along for the ride as we grow and update here. Our breeding focus right now is on our Lavender Orpington chickens, which are a new colour in the Orpington family. So new, in fact, that they do not yet have a standard set in the APA. This is a work in progress and our goal is to produce stunning birds that adhere to the proposed standards set for these beautiful creatures. In our chicken family we also raise Silkies, an old favourite. This year we have Blacks and Silver Partridge. We also breed Royal Palm turkeys, which have a fabulous temperament, and although they are a bit smaller than your average turkey, are a great asset to a small homestead. New this year are the ducks. Muscovies, which are also a great, quiet, and nicely tempered bird, and Indian Runners. The Runners are a bit more elusive but are so fun to watch in the yard! Over the next couple years we also plan to begin a breeding program for our heart dogs, Australian Shepherds. We purchased our first farm Aussie last year, a blue-eyed Red Merle named Dixie, and she has won our hearts completely. We have now purchased our second Aussie, an AKC registered blue-eyed Blue Merle girl named Siena. She will be joining our farm all the way from Oklahoma and once she is fully health tested at 2 years old, she will begin the breeding program. We are also waiting for our second AKC Aussie from Oklahoma, a different farm, male, from an expected litter this spring.
