Ottawa Suzuki Strings

The Suzuki philosophy has shown that every child can play an instrument if immersed in a positive, loving environment rich in music-listening. The method stems from Shinichi Suzuki's discovery that children the world over speak their mother tongue with ease; Suzuki's "mother-tongue" method follows the basic principles of language acquisition. Parents are expected to act as "home-teachers" during the week, attend lessons, take notes and some parents even learn the instruments so that they can support their child's learning. Parents can begin listening to music with their children at birth and start formal training around 3 to 4 years old. The earliest years of a child's life are crucial for development of mental processes and muscle coordination. The Suzuki method and Ottawa Suzuki Strings aim to encourage young children to be excellent in what they do, to teach older children to serve as decent role models for younger children, to create a community of music-learning in Ottawa that evolves with it's students and to employ teachers that know their craft and can communicate their passion to their students in a contagious and positive way.
