Nanoose Bay Catspan Society

Here is a brief history, explaining how we are the legal and original Catspan: Nanoose Bay Catspan' was founded in 2004 as a registered charity, specializing in the humane management of feral cat populations in Nanoose. The group was run very informally, and the finances were tight but in time Catspan grew but stayed to a core volunteer group of about 15. In 2015, The membership of Nanoose Bay Catspan voted unanimously to become a registered society, thus Nanoose Bay Catspan legally became Nanoose Bay Catspan Society. The designation 'Society' is a legal requirement, denoting non profit groups in BC under provincial law. When most of the Board of Nanoose Bay Catspan resigned in July, volunteers voted unanimously to become a registered society to regain and maintain credibility, especially with donors. So in fact Catspan did not splinter. Catspan evolved. It legally assumed an identity, and government oversight, much like the SPCA is a society, Catnap is a society, the list goes on. . We invite you to join Nanoose bay Catspan Society. We don't automatically kill asymptomatic feral cats on the basis of failed SNAP test. This and the fact we don't relocate kittens to any barn program where far too many die or disappear distinguishes us a group that cares deeply about our community cats.
