Hawkestone Handicraft

Hawkestone Handicraft was originally named in 1993 after moving from Toronto to our beautiful property, including a park like setting complete with creek, in the village of Hawkestone, nestled on the west shores of Lake Simcoe. It was born from my love of wood and replica furniture and founded on the basis of old world style, craftsmanship and joinery that creates furniture sure to last a lifetime. Located in the main centre of the village, across the road from the Fire Hall and General Store, the property was originally home to the last standing hotel in what used to be a bustling town and railway stop for people, livestock and goods traveling between Barrie and Orillia. The 16 room Victorian hotel burned down in 1958 when the lot was purchased and a small 3 bedroom home was erected. We have since renovated and expanded the original cottage structure in to a modern and spacious family home. Kelly and I have raised our family and enjoyed an amazing life on the property engaging in a homestead lifestyle including organic gardening, chicken raising and working to grow our boutique furniture and artist studio. It has been our goal to create a showroom for other local artists to showcase their talents and as such we have included carving, jewelry and photography from neighbourhood friends and artists, and continue to expand our product offering. The showroom is a small, 120 square foot vertical log cabin which was moved to the site by horse and sled in 1960 from its original home at Heidi's Campground off Highway 11, and still bares its numeric identifier as cabin #1, providing a beautiful environment to display local creations. All furniture pieces are handcrafted on site and include tables, cabinets, benches and functional decorative pieces that would help beautify any cottage or home. We invite you to come visit our showroom – open on weekends, by chance or by appointment at 705-487-0860 - and enjoy a cup of mulled cider and a walk along the beautiful banks of the Hawkestone creek, which runs through the natural parkland that surrounds our property.
