There is an increasingly widening gap between economy and ecology which is represented by a misconception that environmental sustainability will never become economically viable. It is this same misconception which acts as a hindrance to individuals, families, and businesses by eliminating alternatives with which can be used to combat rising energy costs, a tumultuous global economy and provide a more stable future. On-Grid solutions center around two Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) programs established by the Government of Ontario. Off-Grid solutions involve pure independence from the provincial electrical grid and allow you to never receive an electrical bill again! Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) Explained: As part of the Green Energy Act (GEA) of 2009, the FIT is designed to encourage renewable energy projects across Ontario in an effort to position the province as a global leader in the industry. As a result, participation can be rewarding from both a financial and ideological viewpoint. The program consists of two programs which are defined by the amount of power generated. The microFIT Program is designed for on-grid renewable energy systems which generate electricity of up to ten (10) kilowatts per hour (kWh). The FIT Program is designed for on-grid renewable energy systems which generate electricity of more than ten (10) kilowatts per hour (kWh). Both programs provide a means for participants to pay for their electricity consumption normally but earn an income based on the amount of electricity they generate and supply to the provincial electrical grid. Participants are paid a fixed rate per kilowatt which is secured by a twenty year contract. The contract is designed to allow the participant to recover the equipment costs and earn a reasonable return on their investment. Payments are made by the participant’s local electricity distribution company and coincide with their regular billing cycle4. At Haliburton Solar and Wind, our expert knowledge allows us to navigate and manage the FIT process efficiently and effectively from inception to completion. We make it easy for you. The FIT process includes but is not limited to online registration and application with the Ontario Power Authority and ensuring you meet program requirements. Some of these requirements pertain to: -Technical characteristics of the system -Participant eligibility -Expansions to existing FIT projects -Domestic content requirements Off-Grid Explained: Off-Grid means that you are able to produce your own energy to cover your unique needs and establish complete freedom and independence from electrical companies. This means: You will never receive another electricity bill. You save money and can decide what to do with it. You will not be subject to electrical grid blackouts. You will experience more piece-of-mind as rising energy costs and capacity issues won’t be a concern for you.
