Galiano Island Parks and Recreation Commission

The GIPRC was created in 1995 as an agency of the Capital Regional District(CRD) with the power to "acquire, develop, operate and maintain community parks within the (Galiano) electoral area". Eight Commissioners are appointed for 2 yr terms with the SGI CRD Director also serving as a member. The Commission meets on the 1st Thursday of every month @ 8:30am in the Galiano Island Trust/CRD Office located at Sturdies Bay, 23 Madrona Dr. The public is invited to attend. Arrangements to make a presentation at one of these mtgs can be made by contacting the Recording Secretary, Jennifer Margison @ jkmargison@gmail.com. Members of the 2015 GIPRC are: Betty Kennedy(Chair), Ed Andrusiak(Vice- Chair), Don McKinnon(Treasurer), Gloria Schmidt, Mike Hoebel, Dora Fitzgerald, Allan Forget, Mario Szijarto, Dave Howe(CRD Director; Alternate --- Paul LeBlond). The GIPRC currently operates & maintains 29 Shore/Beach Accesses, 4 Community Parks, the Galiano Skate Board Park. Under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Galiano Trails Society(GTS) assisstance is provided in the maintenance of several hiking trails throughout the island. Both the GIPRC & the GTS publish a Guide Map which is available at the Sturdies Bay Visitors Info Booth.
