Fredericton Wellness - Fitness

Qi Gong incorporates elements of Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Yoga. It relaxes the body and mind, strengthens the immune system and balances body energy. A typical class would begin with standing meditation with abdominal breathing. It is often followed by an exercise sequence taken from the art of Tai Chi. The Opening the Gates sequence focuses on opening key energy gates located at the body’s major articulations. Opening these gates allows energy and blood to flow freely throughout the body. These exercises develop a sense of openness in the body as well as strong balance and focus. Standing Qi Gong and Yoga exercises are integrated seamlessly into the Opening the Gates sequence such as the Forward Fold, Spinal Twist, and Lateral Side Bend. Qi Gong exercises are often integrated at this point such as the Shaking Exercise that relaxes the body head to toes, the Open the Energy Meridians Exercise that moves energy in all of the body’s 12 energy meridians, and the Cleansing Breath that uses visualization to clear out stagnation in the body. Classes are offered on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Fredericton Wellness Clinic and Fitness Studio.
