Elk House Farm

We, at Elk House, are still in the midst of 'growing' our little farm. Our journey currently includes our extra large, dual purpose heritage Coucou de Malines (which we're very excited about!) and a variety of other breeds of poultry. We're proud to say that we health test our flock to ensure they're free of disease before they leave our farm. We have stepped into the dairy world with our first dairy goat, Tanaka (nubian), who kidded on June 1st a single female, Juno. We currently milk every morning and enjoy her bounty of fresh milk and will soon join the cheesemaking club! *Update* - This august we added a purebred nubian doe to our little herd. Her name is Betty and she is a first freshener. We had the opportunity to continue to milk her for a short period of time and indulge in her very rich and delicious milk before drying her up due to an unexpected medical issue and in prep for this fall's breeding season. Gardens! Every year we grow a little more of our own food and maybe some to share as well! Chicken eggs are always ready for the table! We also have a gaggle of Toulouse geese (3 pairs) 6 strong. Life just wouldn't be the same without their presence here on the farm, constantly mowing the lawn and keeping us entertained with their colourful personalities. This coming spring (2016) we will be offering goose eggs for a limited time. 1 egg omelet? I tried my hand at grafting this passed spring of 2015 and have a nursery bed of grafted root stock 39 strong. Some of these will become the beginnings of a new orchard on the farm and extras will be sold. Very excited about this new chapter! We're not sure what's around the next bend but we're having fun along the way and are providing what we hope is an enriching life for our children....and ourselves!
