Dandelion Music

Welcome to Dandelion Music, a private teaching studio in Shawnigan Lake, B.C. on Vancouver Island. My name is Trisha - I have been teaching piano in the South Cowichan Valley since I moved here 25 years ago. I trained in New Zealand through Trinity College, and have associate diplomas in both cello and piano, as well as B.A and B.Mus.(cello performance). Having raised three children of my own, I love young people and really enjoy teaching! Private classes are once a week, with the teaching year matching the longer school holidays. Younger students also have the chance to be involved in a once-a-month group lesson with other students of similar age and skill level. This helps the children to get used to performing for others, and to review the more repetitive skills, such as rhythm, general knowledge and note-reading, in a fun format, as well as getting to know other students. As students get more advanced, they can join a hour-long group class in theory, which will prepare for the Royal Conservatory theory exams, as a part of their piano or cello exams. Students studying with other teachers are also welcome to join in these theory groups. Although I encourage all students to learn the traditional basic skills of classical music, many also enjoy jazz and popular. I welcome adult students as well as children. With pianist Rykie Avenant, I am part of the cello and piano duo Muse, which performs all over Vancouver Island. More info at http://www.dandelionmusic.ca
