History of Le Chateau du Vignoble Le Chateau du Vignoble welcomes guests and offers gracious accommodations all year round. This historical building originated in 1878 as the Dawes Brewery and was gently restored in 1992. the building has interesting windows, ornate woodwork and original stone walls in various units. History of Le Manoir des Berges Le Manoir des Berges was known as L’Auberge de la Marina and has a long history. this building was part of the complex of buildings of the Dawes Breweries. In earlier days, this building which is situated a little more west of le Chateau du Vignoble, was used to house the employees who were working at the Dawes Brewery. This building also served as cellars and warehousing for the barrels. As you can imagine, Mr. Dawes liked to be surrounded by his employees. Mr Dawes himself lived in the magnificent home on the waterfront of Lake St-Louis, which was once known as “El Paso”. The home was later purchased by the City of Lachine and transformed into a cultural center. Mr. Dawes and his employees used to travel from one building to another using underground tunnels between the buildings and all connecting to the Canoe Club facing Le Chateau du Vignoble; these tunnels have since been blocked.
