April Glaicar Studios

April Glaicar is an emerging mixed media artist who was born and raised in the NWT. She returned to the north following her graduation with honours from the Fashion Merchandising program at Seneca College in Toronto and continues to live in Hay River where she and her husband have raised their family. Always creative and attuned to nature as a child (often collecting a pocket full of rocks or flowers) she had begun exploring photography and design by the time she was in high school. Over the years she has continued to develop her skills and has recently made the commitment to full time artist. It is her passion for photography combined with a love of nature and creative curiosity that have resulted in April’s “Inspired Surroundings” photography and jewellery collection; an eclectic mix of her original photographs silverwork or fused glass techniques (originating over 4000 years ago). While working in her home studio April places her original photographs in front of her as sources of inspiration for the jewellery pieces as she creates them. Largely a self-taught artist, April experiments with different materials and techniques and has been an eager participant in workshops facilitated by fellow northern artists including Leslie Leong, George Low, Martin Goodlife, Rosalind Mercredi, Dave Brosha, Shelley MacDonald and Adam Hill.
