Yearn to Learn Yellowknife

Who We Are Yearn to Learn YK is owned and operated by Kate Gilbert, a teacher who is certified in both the NWT and Ontario. She is registered with the NWTTA as well as the OCT. Qualifications include a Bachelor of Applied Science in Child, Youth, and Family Studies as well as a Bachelor of Education, specializing in the Primary and Junior grades. Additionally, Kate possesses the qualifications required for Early Childhood Education certification. She is working towards a Special Education Specialist certification and has completed Part 1 of 3. Where We Are As of May 1st, 2014 Yearn to Learn YK will have an office space in downtown Yellowknife. At this time most learners visit the in-home classroom during their sessions. Special arrangements may be possible for Yearn to Learn YK to come to you. Please contact us at contact@yearntolearnyk.ca for special requests. Why We Are Prior to the creation of Yearn to Learn YK, Yellowknife did not offer a comprehensive tutoring program. We felt that this was a necessary addition to the community to help our learners reach their fullest potential. Other Programs Upon the opening of Yearn to Learn YK's business space in Yellowknife's downtown, we will be offering additional programs. These programs will be available to all Yellowknifers. Drop-in programs will be open to any registered Yearn to Learn YK member. Summer Camp and Homework Club programs will require advance registration. A brief synopsis of these programs is outlined below: - After School Homework Club (coming Fall 2014): Students will attend a small, after school group tutoring session that will include homework help, one-on-one attention as needed, and after school care. - Study Space (coming Fall 2014): A space for high school students to drop-in for use of study resources (formatting guides, on-site laptop and internet use for academic use like research projects or essay composition). - Summer Camp Program (coming July 2014): An eight-week day camp program with a balanced focus on both academics and having fun!
