latin inspired : This simply means that Zumba uses a blend of Latin-American and international music to dance to. It is a wonderful exercise that gets the heart pumpin' and your legs jumpin' with a smile on your face. Dance is a form of self-expression that everyone is entitled to, whether you weigh 100 pounds or 500, whether you're trained or a novice, whether you're technically talented or not. Dance is about passion and you should never deny yourself that. It is great to join together with friends and wiggle.jiggle & giggle. MY STORY: Hello participants, I arrived in Alberta in August 2007 from Scotland U.K. with my husband and three beautiful children. Before I started my weight loss and introduced myself to the Zumba fitness program I weighed 270lbs. I decided one day after being overweight since my teenage years that it was time for me to 'get my act together' and get fitter to benefit both myself and my family. I started my weight loss in September 2009 and lost my first 20lbs by cutting down my food intake . I stopped drinking fizzy pop and only ate at meal times. Then I built up the courage to start attending a Zumba fitness class although I still weighed 250lbs. This class was exactly what I needed to help me lose more weight although I struggled initially and after 5-10 minutes I was thinking: "omg, what am I doing? , who am I kidding?, I want to go home!" But I persevered and gradually I found the classes a little more bearable and I actually started to pick up some of the moves.....it was a slow process. It was March 2011 when I realised that I had lost a further 50(ish)lbs and that my total weight loss at this point was close to 80lbs: "wow , I thought, I have not been this weight since I was 12 or 13yrs old" I was now officially in ONE- DERLAND (my weight was under 200lbs) I had improved a great deal with my Zumba classes and I started to wonder whether I could become a Zumba fitness instructor. I had 3 friends in the U.K that had all become Zumba fitness instructors and I wanted to be part of it. In September 2011 I received my official Zumba instructor certificate (Zumba basic 1) I was amazed at myself for acheiving this along with 2 friends. I have now acheived my Zumba B2 certification ,Gold specialty training Zumba kids and zumba kids jnr specialty training.
