Valley Jiu-Jitsu Kids

Valley Jiu-Jitsu offers ongoing programs for children and teens ages 5 and up. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a traditional martial art sharing many similarities with Judo. Students wear a traditional gi (uniform) and practice grappling techniques with a partner. Our instructional philosophy centers around positive re-enforcement and encouragement. Our classes are conducted with an emphasis on safety and the fostering of a positive attitude. Kids burn off energy with exuberance while learning to exercise restraint when required. Some benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practice for your child: Fitness: practice improves your child's strength, flexibility, and coordination. Confidence: children gain confidence in their ability to work hard and overcome adversity. Being able to overcome challenges in their Jiu-Jitsu practice spills over into the rest of their life. Problem solving: The ability to remain calm in a challenging physical situation and reason through the solution. Social skills: children interact in a group as well as one on one with a variety of personalities. Learning to work with one another on the mats improves their social awareness. Community: children form bonds through their interactions with teammates and gain a sense of belonging. Self-defence: tolerance and non-confrontational resolutions are stressed. As a last resort, Jiu-Jitsu is an effective form of self-defence. Fun: Jiu-Jitsu practice is a lot of fun! Parents are welcome and encouraged to observe all classes.
