The Sooke Commons

The Sooke Commons is an emerging LEARNING and ENGAGEMENT centre in Sooke BC. When our doors open in Fall 2014, we will offer shared workspace, educational programming and a social hub to the fine folks of beautiful Sooke BC. Details: Shared Workspace • A space suited to individuals, contractors, freelancers…people who would like to get out of the home office, or café, for optimizing their work and getting things done. • Consisting of an open seating area in a shared, comfortable setting, with guidelines for mutual respect. • Benefits include shared resources (wifi, printer, kitchen facilities, utilities, presentation facilities, etc.) and reasonable monthly rents (approx. $150/month). Educational Programming • An opportunity for educators and mentors to offer workshops and classes for all ages. • A regular schedule of programming, with outreach to the Sooke community. • Courses, classes, workshops and presentations to satisfy a wide variety of interests. • Current programs being considered include: Media Production classes - e.g. “Make a Documentary”, and “New Journalism 101” • Coding and Programming for Kids • HomeLearners Co-op • Homestead Skills • Literacy Programs • Parenting Workshops Social Hub Space • Sooke has an identified lack of space suited to group meetings. This space will be ideal for one-off presentation nights, monthly meetings, screenings, and special events. With a meeting area that can be transformed into a screening area, a kitchen and restrooms attached. At this time we are accepting input and expressions of interest from the Sooke community.
