The Lyric Theatre

Our members are given unique opportunities to create the highest level of musical theatre. In doing so, we provide a training ground and offer creative outlets to those interested in music and the arts. We serve and reflect the social and cultural needs of the community. Company History The Lyric Theatre was founded in 1965 on the West Island as a community based musical theatre Production Company. It operated successfully, performing in local venues and was managed and supported by volunteers from the West Island. In 1986, Lyric moved its main stage productions to the Centaur Theatre, Montreal’s premiere English language theatre facility in Old Montreal. In doing so, the company created a new home base for their annual book shows. This move broadened its audience and increased its support base by making itself more available and visible to the greater Montreal community. For the next 12 years Lyric flourished, performing classic Broadway musicals to audiences in excess of 75% attendance. In 1990 a second performance division was created: The Lyric Theatre Singers. Under the musical direction of Bob Bachelor, this group of performers sings a Broadway repertoire both in a formal choral formation and in a stylized Show Choir format. Over the years, the Lyric Theatre Singers have performed 100’s of concerts and benefit performances, winning many awards for their outstanding choral sound and their unique performance style. The Lyric Theatre is a federally chartered non-profit charitable organization, BN#89021 991 R0001.
