Society for Animals in Distress

Society for Animals in Distress believes in reducing the pet over population and reducing the spread of disease. SAD takes in owner surrendered cats and dogs and provided temporary shelter and care for these fur babies. We ensure they are vet checked, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, Flea treated/prevented and spayed/neutered before adopting out. SAD is a Registered Charity and do not get funds from the government nor the city. We rely on fundraising, donations, boarding income, Bingo events, and Sunshine Shop for funding. SAD is run by several animal care staff and volunteers. There is a lot of work involved in caring for these animals. They need a clean environment (which can be time consuming especially when we have numerous animals in the shelter) proper nutrition, sometimes medications, nursing care (sometimes come into the shelter ill, and at the start often several veterinary visits. Our staff and volunteers work hard to ensure they are all cared for and do our best to find them homes as quickly as we can. We are always looking for volunteers to help in the shelter as well as our Sunshine Shop (previously enjoyed clothing and household items). Our store is ran by 20 - 30 volunteers. These volunteers are committed to helping raise the necessary funds for the shelter to continue with our mission. The stores receives donation of items from the community members. Through the year SAD runs a variety of Fundraisers such as our Annual Dog Walk, Radiothon, Comedy Nights, Murder Mystery's Raffles and so on. We are always looking for new ideas and of course volunteers to help with these events. SAD also works participates in the Local Bingo and require 3 volunteers to work the assigned nights.
