Snippets offers finely crafted textiles featuring one or more of the following: Maritime fibers, repurposed textiles, natural pigments. Inspired by a quotation from Beatrix Potter’s The Taylor of Gloucester in which the tailor muses “there is no more left over in snippets than will serve to make tippets for mice”, even the tiniest snippet of yarn, fleece, or fabric can find a place in an artistic creation. Fiber artist Ruth Mackay gathers snippets to pursue her art in Lyon’s Brook, Pictou County and indulges her lifelong love of teaching through offering introductory Fiber Arts Sampler workshops in paper making, flower pounding, yarn painting, resist dyeing, wet and needle felting, felted knitting, abstract weaving, rug hooking, stitched and fused appliqué, and decorative stitching.
