Patient/Client & Family Council

The Patient/Client & Family Council has a Board of Directors which is comprised of nine former clients and family members who have had personal experience with the mental health system and know what it is like to live each day with a mental illness. Meetings are held monthly (excluding July/August) or more often if warranted. The Board oversees all initiatives of the organization. Ensuring that our peers living with mental illness and addictions have the best quality of life, both within the hospital setting and in the community, is our number one objective. The Council attempts to meet this goal through providing resource information to appropriate services, offering a friendly ear and engaging in partnerships with the providing network of professionals. Employment services for people living with mental health and addiction issues a huge ingredient in our success. We currently have 15 employees providing office services, peer support services, hairdressing assistance, culinary and mail delivery services at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care. The Patient/Client & Family Council strives to have a strong voice in the mental health system. The Council represents the client voice by participating on various hospital committees within Waypoint Centre, such as the Least Restraint committee, Ethics Integration Team, Client Bill of Rights committee and Community Ward meetings. Our activities are numerous and growing; another true sign of our voice being heard.
