Northern Lights School Division #69

Our schools are located in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche, Glendon, Plamondon, Ardmore, Caslan, Iron River, Wandering River, Kikino Metis Settlement, Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement and Fishing Lake Metis Settlement. Our Care to Learn Preschool program is offered at seven of our elementary schools and Out of School Care is available at five of our schools. All of our elementary schools offer our award-winning Literacy-Enhanced Kindergarten program which supplements the provincial half-day Kindergarten with literacy-focused activities. Our elementary schools offer moral intelligence (character education) programs and all of our schools encourage students to be active in their schools and communities. The student leadership groups at our middle and high schools raise awareness of issue in their local communities and around the world and raise thousands of dollars for charity. Over 700 of our students take part in our band programs through our commitment to enhanced fine arts programming in the division. Students can also take part in choir, drama, musical theater, dance, visual art and a variety of other options. NLSD students can learn a variety of second languages. French Immersion is offered in Cold Lake at North Star Elementary and Cold Lake Middle School. Ecole Plamondon School offers French Immersion as well as a Russian Bilingual program. NLSD students can also learn Ukrainian, Cree, Arabic, Japanese and Spanish. Our high schools offer students a solid academic foundation to succeed whether they want to go to university or college, learn a trade or enter the workforce right after graduation. They also offer a variety of options that encourage students to explore their interests and possible career paths. Career Pathways help high school students jump start their chosen careers by taking dual credit classes or even earning their credentials while still in high school (Emergency Medical Responder, Early Learning and Child Care). The Registered Apprenticeship Program allows students to start their apprenticeship while in high school, working with an employer to get their on-the-job training while earning high school credits at the same time. This is just a small sample of the programming opportunities available for NLSD students. For more, see our website www.nlsd.ab.ca
