Artist Bio: “For beauty is nothing, but the beginning of terror we can just barely endure, and we admire it so because it calmly disdains to destroy us” -Rainer Maria Rilke Nicole Garbutt is the NWT’s premier makeup artist. Practicing in all genres and mediums, Nicole started her apprenticeship at the age of thirteen. After graduating from Blanche MacDonald Centre with a diploma in makeup artistry she worked as a makeup artist for Lancome. Returning to Yellowknife in 2010 she has built her business, Nicole Garbutt Makeup Artistry into a full service one-stop-shop for all things makeup related. Some of her notable accomplishments include; Makeup Artist to Heather Hiscox of CBC’s News Now during location filming in Yellowknife 2014 Makeup Artist to Adam Beach for NWT Tourism’s Spectacular NWT campaign 2013 Lead body painter & makeup designer for Sedna, a Borderless Art Movement production 2013 Lead Makeup Artist & makeup designer for Boundless: Fashion from Canada’s North, a fashion show at the National Arts Centre of Canada, in Ottawa ON 2013 Third Makeup Artist for two seasons of CBC’s Arctic Air. 2012-2013 Lead Makeup Artist & makeup designer for International Circumpolar Health Conference Cultural Gala 2009 Lead Makeup Artist & makeup designer for Arctic Winter Games Fashion Show 2008 Clients include: Professional snowboarder Molly Milligan, Award-winning musician Leela Gilday, Jamie Look Jewellry, Rannva Arctic Fashion and NWT Pride. In addition to makeup and body paint, Nicole is also a writer, burlesque dancer, choreographer, director, painter, beader, potter and set designer.
