SUPPORTING FAIR and BUYING LOCAL. _______________________________________ About Carolyn... My passion for travel started from my childhood days, growing up in Guyana with a Dad who travelled the world on business. His gifts represented a world that I knew I too would one day soon explore. After following my passion of seeing the world as an "Untourist" for the past 40 years, I discovered some of the most beautiful handiwork from local artisans with no resources to market their handicrafts outside their communities. I would fill my suitcase with their treasures and return home with the promise that one day I would make a difference in these artisans lives. Today after participating in the last 5 Fair Trade Conferences, developing relationships with supplier groups and artisans worldwide and finding the perfect location on Salt Spring Island, Mondo Trading Company was founded. It has been an exciting experience. We look forward to welcoming you into our store and for your support which in turn would allow us to continue supporting artisan groups from around the world. Let us all be the change we are looking for in life and shop where every purchase makes a difference in someone's life. About Diane... I haven't had the opportunity to travel as my sister Carolyn, however I benefited from those special gifts that returned with her from her travels worldwide. My passion is design. From as early as 8 years old, I recall designing my clothes and my aunt creating my vision. From there it became re-creating my bedroom at an early age and then re-designing my parents’ home and mine years later. I discovered interior design was where my passions was and worked in the field for many years when my sister approached me with her idea of starting a Fair Trade Store. After participating in a few Fair Trade Conferences over the years, I became familiar with the many unique creations that were made all around the world. These craftspeople and artisans are up-cycling or using their traditional techniques creating something unique while making a living to support their families in some remote parts of the world. Coming from a very diverse cultural background, I have always implemented something from a global perspective in my designs. So from here, my quest was to source out those unique products using natural or up-cycled materials. I love the traditional techniques mixed with more contemporary designs and realize when one is open to global design…so much can happen. From here, the design for Mondo was created and developed. Stop by for a visit and discover that special treasure (made with love) by the many talented artisans worldwide. Think about the impact that your purchase will make for our artisans, their families and communities and lets make a difference!
