Mayor Delbert Shewfelt

It has been my privilege to dedicate much of my life to the town of Goderich. During my tenure as Mayor, I had the honour of working with five councils and many citizens on a number of projects which improved the quality of life in our community. Together we accomplished a great deal. Our community hosted the Mickey Mouse Hometown Parade; built the Maitland Recreation Centre; created the Victoria Park Splash Pad; and partnered with the Hospital Foundation to build the Maitland Valley Medical Centre, obtained a CT scanner and vigorously recruited new family doctors and surgeons. Together, we overcame the devastation of the tornado of 2011 and revitalized our town square. Together, we worked with Central Huron to bring 200 acres of land into our town so we could continue to grow our community and provide greater employment opportunities. In addition, our acquisition of the harbor and beaches from the federal government further increased our potential for future growth. We live in a community that is the envy of most, however we must continue to build on all we have accomplished. I believe that now is the time to focus on developing middle-income employment. We have the infrastructure, we have the available land, and we have skilled, enthusiastic workers. Let’s let the world know. Together we should work with existing business to create additional employment opportunities and recruit small business and industry to our community. Jobs should be our number one priority. Together we can continue to revitalize our infrastructure, finish work on Courthouse Square, expand the Medical Clinic, maximize the potential of our waterfront, provide tax relief for residences and develop youth initiatives such as a new skatepark. There is still much to be done in Goderich. Together, as a community of willing, industrious individuals, we can get the job done.
