Jubilee Plaza / McMurray Experience

Jubilee Plaza — located beside City Hall — is a unique and dynamic space that elevates Fort McMurray's downtown, offering exciting programming and a place to relax. Completed in 2015, this dynamic space changes with the seasons and always has something to offer year-round for residents of Wood Buffalo and visitors to the region. The public art invited to use the space to attend Municipal programming in the Plaza, as well as book the space for their own private events. Visitors to Jubilee Plaza can step into the McMurray Experience and learn more about the region using interactive technology and guidance from trained staff. Open from Wednesday to Sunday, the McMurray Experience can also be booked for small-scale private events. The Weather Catcher is a striking architectural feature, over sixty feel tall and incorporating seasonally responsive technology. Using water to emphasize the change of seasons and lit with a colourful lighting system, residents can enjoy light mist, refreshing rain or a dazzling ice display depending on the time of year. Performers can take the stage in Jubilee Plaza year-round, using the adjustable mobile podium. Built on a track, the stage can glide across the Plaza, creating different alignments the make for unique events. Programming in the space ranges from yoga classes in spring, trade shows and markets in summer, performance art in fall, snowman building and an skating rink for winter!
