Crimson Tide Photography

"Always follow the waves of your heart, your head may contradict them, but your heart beats strong and will always show you the way" ~Matt Merrick I have been asked many time why I chose to name my business "Crimson Tide Photography". The answer is a simple one - memories. I grew up as a military child, but spent the most memorable years of my childhood and youth not far from the Atlantic Ocean, living just outside Halifax, Nova Scotia and most of my summers were spent in a small coastal town called Glace Bay, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The ocean has been a central theme in all of the memories I hold dear. It is the place I went when I needed to think, to get way, to explore, to feel free, to morn and to celebrate. I can't describe the incredible feeling that comes over me when I know I am going home; knowing I will get to smell the water in the air and hear the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. I can't place my finger on the exact attraction. Is it the rhythm of the waves; the constant movement, with no end and no beginning; the way two waves are never quite the same; the power and force of incoming tide or the speed at which a calm rolling wave coasting gently along can become rough and vigorous. The unmistakable sound of the ocean reminds m that everything is connected in its own way. It was only natural for me to incorporate the ocean into my business name, because the love I feel for photography can only be compared to the love I feel for the ocean. A Crimson Tide is rare sight, and occurs when there is a high tide at sunset, usually in July or August, when the sun is a fierce yellow-orange colour. This causes the sky to turn a beautiful, rich, crimson red and orange colour, sometimes with hues of violet, reflecting onto the water giving it a stunning crimson glow. I have been blessed to see this only a handful of times, but in that moment there is nothing more beautiful. And that beauty is was I hope to achieve in my photography. ~ Sonia Donovan-Clark
