Community Learning Centre Waterdown

Community Learning Centre [CLC] offers core subject and supplementary education courses to students of elementary, middle and high school ages. The centre was formed for students to learn about themselves, their relationship to the world and to participate in the integrated learning process. Integrative Learning At CLC, “Integrative Learning” takes a full spectrum approach to educating the student. The program was designed to support a student’s development physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. All courses will include necessary ‘life skills’ components, which are built in to offer ‘real life’ education to the student. Both academic and non-academic areas play a vital role in the integrative learning process. Learning Environment Students are welcomed into a safe, secure and nurturing environment, leading to an increased level of freedom and social cohesiveness. Encouraging the students to engage in dialogue with inquiry, evokes creativity, critical thinking and responsibility. The social development within the student groups lead them naturally into team building, bringing out the best in each student. Program Quality Acknowledging the unique learning needs of each student, we plan courses with small class sizes to maintain an effective student to instructor ratio. Instructors are skilled with developing relationships, understanding each student’s needs, using effective teaching methods, inspiring them to take responsibility for accomplishments, coaching them to reach goals and providing a fun and vibrant learning environment. CLC Community CLC actively plans social events and activities throughout the year to help build relationships between students, families, staff and course instructors and encourages parents to be partners in the integrative learning process. Our program will be home to regular weekly students, part-time students and students from other schools.
