Dear Homeowner
My name’s Andrew Nullmeyer and I am a student entrepreneur operating a successful and professional exterior painting business. I am very excited to provide my outstanding service to the community of Parry Sound - Muskoka and look forward to the opportunity of meeting your painting needs this year.
I provide a full range of exterior painting services that include a top quality job from start to finish. This consists of prep, minor maintenance such as puttying caulking or washing, and finally the proper application of a finish coat.
What do we paint? Pretty much everything! Paintable surfaces include siding, windows, soffits/fascia, eaves, doors, garage doors, railings and pillars; as well as decks and fences.
By adding value to your home through our reputable painting service, your most prized asset could get that much needed touch up or even a complete exterior makeover. If you decide to go ahead with the work, I promise to put my full effort into providing a finished product that exceeds your expectations and that I will be proud of.
I look forward to meeting your exterior painting needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do your prices compare to other paint companies?
We are competitive with other contractors – not the highest or the lowest. We deliver a good paint job at a fair price.
What makes a paint job last?
The three main factors are quality of the surface prior to being painted, proper preparation, and application of a quality product.
Do you have workers’ compensation and liability insurances?
You bet.
What if I have a problem after the job is over?
We’re here to help! We do the job right the first time, but some homes do blister or peel within two years of being painted. If your home is one of them call 1-800-465-2839 for assistance in Canada.
We’ll send someone over to assess the painting job and determine whether the warranty covers it. If so, College Pro will fix the job by next summer or sooner if possible.
Are the painters actual college students?
My painters are. I make it a point to hire students who live in your area and are working to fund their university tuition. Students earn enough to pay for university, and are encouraged to work next year.
How do I know your students will produce a paint job that will last?
Students make excellent painters. To be an excellent painter one has to have two main qualities – good hard work ethic (preparation and finish coats are labour intensive), and attention to detail (straight lines and cleanliness). Our students are going to be the future doctors, teachers, and leaders of this world, and have already spent years developing these two main qualities from their course loads. The Production Manager applies additional experience by performing quality inspections daily to ensure the highest standards in the industry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the Painters trained?
Yes. And many of them are experienced before arriving at College Pro. Most training is supervised on-the-job training. As you probably know, the best way to learn a job is to do it.
Are the Painters Supervised?
Yes. A Job Site Manager supervises every job. The manager is on-site and available to answer your questions. The production manager is a daily supervisor of quality control, process, and productivity.
How does the warranty work?
Horizontal surfaces such as decks are not covered in the warranty. Horizontal surfaces take a beating from foot traffic and the elements, which is the reason we prefer stains. Staining and sealing is the industry standard and our suggestion for these types of surfaces.
What can be done to extend the life of the paintjob on the weather wall?
A common solution for many homes on the island is to do an additional coat on the one wall that receives the most weathering. It’s a cost efficient way to extend the life of the houses paint job, and many coastal houses look much better as a result.
And is there anything I should know about the limitations of paint?
• If the color you have chosen is different from the existing one, it will probably require two coats (even though we use premium paints). If a coat is applied too thickly it will not dry and adhere properly. So you can’t just “load it on”.
• If you have an old – particularly wooden – house with many layers of old paint, the end result will be a subtly textured surface. This is normal. Scraping peels only loose paint, it doesn’t remove every layer of paint. After thoroughly scraping and prepping the surface we start painting will be a little uneven – that’s just part of the charm of old houses.
• To strip every spot of paint back to the wood for a pristine look is very expensive, as it requires paint remover is massive quantities and/or propane torches and is an intensive amount of work. It is not a service that College Pro offers.
We wanted to mention these because our painters’ youthful enthusiasm attempts to make things perfect, but experience tells us what is realistic and what industry standards are.
College Pro History
College Pro has been one of Canada’s best small business success stories and in the process created a new industry – student painting.
College Pro has two proven facts. First, students can paint well and at a fair price. Second, students are interested and capable of running their own franchise business successfully. This caused quite a stir in an industry that previously had only full-time tradesmen. For the past twenty years College Pro has been the leader in the entire painting industry.
College Pro was developed by Greig Clark in 1971. He was a 18 year old business student who needed a summer job to pay for next year’s school. Being a true entrepreneur, Greig decided to start his own business rather than simply getting a job. After graduation from university three years later, Greig began working at General Foods, but the idea of College Pro stayed with him.
In 1977, Greig left General Foods and began to teach other students what he had learned about running his own business in the summers. The training program at College Pro teaches the students how to be painters and how to run their own business. In the training, the managers learn what paint is composed of, the properties and applications of different paint, the causes of paint failures, and the proper corrections. With this knowledge the manager can help you decide the best way to paint your home. In addition to the technical knowledge, the managers lean how to work with employees, customer relations, and financial management to help them run their own business.
College Pro’s commitment to providing quality work at a fair price for its customers has been the basis of our success. Over the years feedback from our customers has been used in refining our systems to provide better service. College Pro can proudly say that we have one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings in the service industry.
