CMTC / CCEM Wainwright

Headquartered at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, in the rugged prairie country of Eastern Alberta, The Canadian Manoeuver Training Centre (CMTC) is the Canadian Armed Forces' most advanced joint and collective training facility. CMTC’s mission is to design and deliver full-spectrum, immersive, joint and collective training events for the Canadian Armed Forces in a complex Contemporary Operating Environment in order to generate high-readiness Task Forces. In conjunction with the Royal Canadian Air Force, CMTC is a focal point in the Air Land Integration of the CAF. The RCAF’s synchronization of training with the Canadian Army is instrumental in advancing the capabilities of the CAF. While its major exercises are conducted in the 610 square Kilometres of the Wainwright training area, the majority of CMTC’s unique capabilities are exportable to other parts of Canada and beyond. Battle Staff Training, COEFOR Academy and the OCT Academy are all exportable aspects of CMTC. Before soldiers deploy on a mission, it is crucial that they initially experience the conditions and challenges of that mission in an immersive environment and train to a level of proficiency where mission-critical decisions become second nature. The training at CMTC enables elements of the Canadian Army to train at the combined and joint level in force-on-force, highly complex situations. As part of the immersive environment, unit, brigade and area staff are engaged in the planning and conduct the movement of their organizations to the exercise location.
