Le karaté est un art martial japonais qui est basé sur l'éducation de la volonté et de la maîtrise physique Le karaté repose sur l'utilisation systématique des mains et des pieds dans le but de maîtriser un ennemi. Lors d'une attaque, le karatéka utilise toute la force de l'adversaire en le maîtrisant par des blocages rapides et il poursuit avec une contre-attaque synchronisé avec tous les mouvements de l'adversaire. Le karaté est une escrime de bras et de jambes servant à parer une attaque adverse ou à riposter. Il est complété par des techniques de luxations, de projections et de renversements. Le karaté reste une discipline qui exige un entraînement très dur et une parfaite maîtrise du corps et de l'esprit. Son efficacité au combat réel est indéniable et à travers cette discipline se profile un enrichissement spirituel certain.
