The Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history of Chatham-Kent’s Black Community and their influence across North America. Our organization aims to educate the residents of Chatham-Kent and visitors about the legacy left by the early Black pioneers and refugees who helped to build the city. The Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society will continue to promote the Chatham-Kent areas most important and prominent Black Histories. With an ever growing collection we intend to expand our museum into a larger inclusive space for our entire collection of history, donations and artifacts. Our museum was renovated and redesigned in 2005; self-guided or walking tours are available. The exhibit includes special interest artifacts, audio-interactive figures of prominent Blacks of early Chatham and a wide range of primary and secondary resources.
