Cakes by Darlene

Darlene Babin, President and Owner of Cakes by Darlene has a long history of cake decorating which goes back to 1980 when she started working for Tim Horton’s, the Canadian coffee chain. She found decorating to be a wonderful outlet for her creative genius and soon found herself needing more and greater challenges. Leaving Tim’s she found what she was looking for as a cake decorator for one of the larger grocery chains. Here she was able to explore concepts and ideas which made her cakes immediately popular with the general public. Wishing to further her talents, Darlene enrolled in a professional cake decorating course and successfully completed it in December of 1992. By 2000 she had moved on to another grocery chain where recognizing her talents, she was promoted to the position of head cake decorator. By then, Darlene was pondering her future and knew that if she was to have the freedom to design the unique cakes her imagination envisioned, she would have to move out on her own. Thus Cakes by Darlene was born in 2004, and it has thrived into a booming business ever since. She still enjoys a great deal of personal satisfaction from her business and finds it not only a rewarding career, but fun as well. Darlene continues to feel the passion from designing, baking and decorating cakes, from complex wedding designs to humorous, custom designed Fun Cakes. One thing has never changed – she still insists on meeting her clients one-on-one and cherishes the moment when she presents them with the cake she so lovingly, patiently brought to life. This is her reward and Darlene lives for that moment when a satisfied, happy customer leaves with her latest creation. Most of her sales come from ‘word of mouth’ as impressed clients tell others of the incredible work she performs. The secret ingredient to Darlene’s success is not in her cake recipe.
