Imagine a world where we don't have to worry or struggle. Imagine a world where we and our children can positively shine, being the best that we can be within our own unique parameters. Imagine a life without labels, a life that allows us to achieve what we desire much more easily and happily. Imagine a more peaceful family life, a less stressful day to day. This need not be a dream. You can achieve this dream at Brunswick Neurofeedback.
At Brunswick Neurofeedback we recognize that many families struggle on a daily basis. Schedules are full, demands are high and sometimes a child or children in a family simply cannot keep up. Neurofeedback is a great way to help you or your child unleash your inner edge, allowing life to flow more smoothly for the whole family.
We are proud to bring this state of the art, life changing neurofeedback technology to the West Island.
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, natural, completely safe and side effect free way to regulate ones Central Nervous System (CNS). It has been proven time and time again that a disorganized brain can show up in various forms in adults and children, including multitudes of symptoms such as, but not limited to, the following; anxiety, depression, trouble sleeping, trouble focusing, shyness, attention problems, low self-esteem, school performance problems, lack of co-operation, immaturity, aggression.
By training ones brain, each and every individual can live their best life, be their best self and function at their most optimal level.
Q & A with Sam & Jenny (co-founders)
***************************************
How did you get involved in Neurofeedback Training?
(Sam) I started off working for the company (Zengar Institute Inc.) that makes this particular neurofeedback technology ten years ago. I wasn’t particularly interested in the technology itself— it was an admin job for me— I was simply processing orders. One day they brought me to a trade show to help take orders at our booth. They needed a head to do a demo on so I agreed. I was at the front of the room doing a demo session in front of the crowd and all of a sudden, this fog I didn’t even know I had in my brain just parted! I felt amazing for the rest of the say and was hooked after that. I purchased my own system soon after and started running friends and family. A few years after that I started seeing clients in my home office. Last year Jenny and I decided to bring this technology to more people and after all the stars aligned, the opportunity to bring this to Brunswick just fell into our laps.
(Jenny) Similarly to Sam I was working for Zengar and became intrigued by all the client stories I was hearing. When my oldest daughter started going through a really rough patch in regards to fixation I borrowed a system to see if the neurofeedback could help her. After the first session she never mentioned the fixation again! I then started training my second daughter who was always prone to tantrums and anger and the progress she made was astounding. That's when I knew I needed to have my own system and bring this to other moms!
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback using the NeurOptimal® system is essentially a brain workout. It trains your brain to be more flexible and resilient. Without pushing it in any specific direction, the NeurOptimal® neurofeedback system interacts with your central nervous system in a way that improves neural plasticity. A mind that is more flexible adapts and responds quicker and more appropriately to changes in your environment. For example, the more easily your brain adjusts to changes encountered in a normal busy day, the better you feel. A lack of brain fitness, on the other hand, can leave you drained and stressed at the end of the day.
NeurOptimal® can also help build brain resilience, or an increase in the central nervous system’s ability to “bounce back” from a negative event. For example, negative feelings associated with a personal conflict or bad day at work can hover hours after the actual event has passed. The destructive effect of nervousness, repetitive or self-critical thinking is magnified in more severe events such as physical or emotional trauma or the loss of a loved one. Instead of staying stuck in the negativity of these events, the resilient brain will snap back and return to its normal baseline more quickly. Individuals with a more resilient brain report feeling happier and enjoying a more profound sense of peace.
Who can benefit from it?
Anyone with a brain. :) In all seriousness though, we have people of all walks of life and all ages that see tremendous benefits. Some people seek out neurofeedback training because they are hoping to see specific changes (ie. A parent seeks it out for their child hoping the child will be able to focus better at school, an adult might seek it out hoping that the more resilient their brain becomes the less anxious they will feel or the better they will sleep, an older person may do sessions because they hope to slow down the process of brain aging). Others simply seek it out for the sheer pleasure of living life at their very best and making it an integral part of their well being.
Who are your average clients?
Our clients range from the very young to the very old.
Is it different for different "issues"?
People can come in with different expectations or “hopes” of the results they will attain, however we do not treat anything specific. We simply work with the brain in a way that allows it to learn to function at its most optimal level. Doing so brings the person in question functioning at their highest capacity (whatever that capacity is), most of the time taking away any symptoms of a less than optimally functioning brain that they may be experiencing. A less than optimally functioning brain can manifest in different ways, for example: trouble sleeping, trouble focusing, feeling down, difficulty completing tasks, difficulty finding your words, feeling angry, feeling impatient... pretty much anything that does not lend itself to a sense of balance.
What does it cost? Does insurance cover it?
The cost is $115 per session. We have a psychiatrist and psychologist on staff that can oversee the session process which makes it reimbursable by many insurances. If you don’t have insurance you may still explore the option of submitting your receipts with your end of year taxes.
