What is Block Parent®? The origins of this program began back in 1968 in Ontario after the tragic death of an 8 year old boy who was kidnapped on his way to school and unfortunately it was not discovered until after school. Block Parent® not only began because of this but so did the schools’ implementation of the absentee callback system. Block Parent® is designed to provide a safe haven to children, teens and seniors in need of help from an adult when not at home. Based on the different dynamics these days as kids aren’t left alone as much as we may have enjoyed in our childhood but incidents happen everyday that an adult could help with. Examples are; child separates from parents on bike ride, encounters a dog a large, falls while on rollerblades or scooter, encounters a bully, witnesses a crime or lastly is followed or approached by a person that gives them the Uh Oh feeling. Once program is city wide and fully implemented should an Amber Alert ever occur locally, Airdrie Block Parent® can initiate a fan out search which would be an organized systematic search.
