-The Scout Movement started in 1907 when Lord Robert Baden-Powell held the first camp on Brownsea Island, England. He established a Promise and Law which were, and are the fundamental basis for establishment of a value system. -Scouts is the largest youth organisation in the world, with membership of more than 40 million in 160 countries. - Over 65,000 young people enjoy Scouts Canada’s co-ed programs, which are provided by close to 20,000 caring and dedicated volunteers. -Scouts Canada is launching a new revitalization program called the Canadian Path, which focuses on four key elements: 1) Youth Leadership- Youth planning and input from Beaver Scouts through to Rover Scouts. 2) S.P.I.C.E.S- Social, Physical, Intellectual, Character, Emotional and Spiritual Development of well-rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world., 3) Plan do review- A process for every activity. 4) Adventure- Young people learning through the outdoors, and seeking ways to personally challenge one another. -Scouting is based on three broad principles *Duty to God *Duty to Others *Duty to Self (the duty to God principles reflect our commitment to spiritual growth, be it through organized religion or something as simple spirituality through the love of nature, and respect for the environment. -The Scout Law is “A Scout is helpful and trustworthy, Kind and cheerful, Considerate and clean, and wise in the use of all resources” -The Scout Promise is “On my honor; I promise that I will do my best; to do my duty to God and the Queen; To help other people at all times; and to carry out the spirit of the Scout Law.”
